           The Butterfly Gate

The Butterfly Gate is not an attempt to merge cultures into a single language, nor to create a melting pot of traditions. Each element in this body of work retains its own identity, history, and dignity. Lace remains lace rooted in the women of Salento, in time, patience, and inherited knowledge. Tropical imagery remains what it is lush, untamed, and tied to the landscape that surrounds me today.

This work comes from my personal experience of seeing the world through multiple lenses. It reflects how different places, memories, and sensibilities coexist within me, not as a fusion, but as parallel presences. I approach each cultural reference with respect and attentiveness, honoring its authenticity rather than dissolving it.

The surreal space created in The Butterfly Gate is not meant to blend cultures, but to hold them togetherallowing them to remain distinct while being seen at once. The butterfly becomes a threshold: a passage between worlds, not a replacement of one by another.

Through this work, I affirm the belief that authenticity is preserved when cultures are acknowledged in their specificity. Coexistence does not erase difference; it deepens awareness. What emerges is not a new hybrid culture, but a truthful reflection of how I experience belonging, memory, and place.
